Our Amazing Coaches
Maria Guy-MacLean
Coach
My name is Maria MacLean-Guy, I have been coaching swimming for eight years now. I’ve been volunteering with the Breakers since I was in grade eight. I coached the breakers full time for three summers and now I will be returning part time to coach along with my other summer internship for school. I’ve coached for multiple groups including the Breakers, the Halifax Trojans, and the Canada Games Centre. I just finished my third year of studying mechanical engineering at Dalhousie University. Off the pool deck I love to hike, surf, camp, and ski. I’m excited to see some familiar faces and some new ones at the pool soon!
Aline Potvin
Coach
My name is Aline Potvin, and I am so excited to coach SMBB for a second year in a row! I swam competitively in winter swimming for about eight years and now swim with a club at StFX. I previously coached for the team I swam for (SWAT) and have volunteered at many meets. I have finished my first year of nursing at StFX University and am loving it. I love the sport of swimming, and I can’t wait to pass on that love to the team and help them grow as people and as swimmers.
Shaelyn Wadden
Coach
Hi! My name is Shaelyn Wadden, but I also go by Shae. I have been a coach for 7 years, and this’ll be my fifth year coaching the Breakers! In July 2020, I completed the Swimming 101 coaching course, and since then have completed my Safe Sport Training, Making Ethical Decisions, Diversity and Inclusion in Action and Commit To Kids For Coaches, Mental Health in Sport, and I am a VIP coach. In the fall, I will be starting my fourth year at NSCAD, working towards my Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in photography. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, going on photo walks, and swimming!
Kara Boehm
Adminitrative Assistant & Social Media
Hi I’m Kara! I’ll be starting grade 12 in the fall at Bay View, and I work as a lifeguard too. I’ve been a part of the Breakers since 2022, and I love swimming with them. In the summers I train with the Tsunamis and manage our swimmer’s records, as well as the newsletters and social media pages. I can’t wait for another awesome summer season!
